relevant point I am 40years old. The call centre is meant to be a high stress job but the pay is very good. I’m not the type to stress easily, it also has lots of incentives to keep employees such as free gym, tennis, superannuation, sick leave, holiday pay. The painting apprenticeship means 4years of low pay in a booming industry yet uncertainty as to how super, holiday pay etc works if any. I don’t have a passion to be a painter nor a work at a call centre but both were very competitive to enter and now I don’t know which to choose. I have to answer in 6 days! I would like to travel around Australia in the future, something I may be able to do with a trade? The call centre is for Centrelink. I can’t go with my heart because it’s not answering, neither are dream jobs but I need to work. Any thoughts greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
Since you are 40 I would go with the call centre job. Apprenticeships are a young persons game and as you say there are no guarantees with that job either regarding the perks and low pay sucks. There are also the physical aspects of painting. I have known a few painters and their backs are almost always shot…it’s hot dirty work. You have to lug around ladders…climb…stand in one spot for ages…it’s for younger people and unfortunately physically at least you are on the way down after 40. You may be just as stressed as a painter…doing the job and going to school for it….so you might as well be doing the call centre job and getting paid well for it.
I’ve been working for the same company for about 3 years and I decided to switch from one division of the company to another division. In the process of looking for jobs within the company, I applied to a few of the best employers in the area and I may receive an offer that would be a dream job – or close to it. I just started working in the new division and got the job through a friend, who I don’t want to alienate by leaving a few weeks later. Is it appropriate to move so soon after I start? I don’t dislike where I work, but it would be hard to pass up this new opportunity.
If someone bigger and better came along I would totally go for it. I mean you have put in three years there. Amd although your friend may have helped you, hopefully they will understand that something better has come along. Good luck.
Are you comfortable wearing flat shoes and losing height advantage with guys, or are heels important in achieving greater parity?
Heels are essential. I wear six inch stilettos in to the office every day, and I believe that it has a positive effect on the way my male coworkers percieve me.
Just wondering what jobs you would love, like your dream jobs.
I already have my dream job. I’m a Fire Fighter.
Although when I was a kid, I always wanted to be a rail road engineer.
I will be an incoming freshman at a University of California campus and plan on majoring in biology or marine biology. I was wondering what jobs will be in demand in the future? I am open to attending grad, med, or dental school, but my dream job would be to incorporate research and travel. I was thinking along the lines of National Geographic, Discovery Channel, or PBS, but only found jobs relating to sales, journalism, or photography. Does my dream job even exist?
There are many possibilities. Check the following websites they should be able to help you.
I am considering going back to college although I am a successful chef, is it a risk you would take?
yes …. my honest personal openion and not kidding anyone. I will do just that and on week ends with the skills you have…I may put it to earning extra money in a small eatery.
I want to move but don’t know where to move to, (in the USA). I want to move where the weather is GREAT, jobs PAY well! and crime is LOW!! Any suggestions? (No guessing PLEASE only give me info that you KNOW to be fact. Thnx so much!! ![]()
I love my job, I make over $20/hr, but I’m in a specialized field. The best paying cities are also the most expensive, so you can’t really compare. It doesn’t matter if the pay in New York is twice as much, if rent is 3x as much.
If you want great weather, San Diego (where I live) is wonderful, but housing prices (both for sale and for rent) are downright ridiculous (high). But, ideal weather for you may be different–I hate snow, but if you want a full range of seasons, you need to look somewhere else.
So I guess what I’m saying is you need to figure out what you want (more specifically) and then start investigating parts of the country, and finding out if they have openings in your field. For example, if you want to work in Biotech, you can’t move to Montana, just because you like the area.
That’s currently my undergraduate plan in university and I’m already a junior on my way to achieving this.
I’d love to be an actress but if not another one of my dream jobs would be working in media at a national or even international level.
I tried to get a job with a Comm and Media Arts major. I wanted to get into Advertising or TV Production and couldn’t do either. So now I’m a Healthcare Recruiter.
Hey everyone.I love travelling and i want to see the world. My dream job is what i called an ‘International’ job.I’d like to go international! But i have no idea what kind of jobs that are international jobs?Do you have any idea?
Would that be a good idea? I felt the same way…but I dont wanna travel for business…I want to travel for pleasure. If I travel for business…then I can’t enjoy my surroundings fully.
Anyways, there are jobs like sales, marketing/business. Those have major travel.
Of course i’d LOVE to be one of the trainers for shamoo or the dolphins at sea world. That would be my absolute dream job. But realisticaly, how many people want that job, and will get that amazing oppertunity. So what are some other jobs i could do to maybe help, or what jobs are availible with these kind of animals?
Whale Catcher or Whaling.
